Bamboo
Fast growing and sustainable, bamboo is an extremely versatile and attractive material which has many valuable qualities.
Bamboo is a group of woody perennial evergreen plants. It is a grass; so when it is harvested, its roots simply re-grow another shoot, dispensing with the need to replant seeds and preventing soil erosion. It grows at exceptional speed - as opposed to 15 - 25 years for timber, bamboo is ready to cut in 3 - 5 years - without the need for pesticides.
Bamboo has a natural anti-bacterial quality, which is a useful property for a work surface or chopping board. It is naturally light brown, but can be stained or simply finished with Danish oil to protect it from wear and tear while retaining the material's natural texture and warmth.
Bamboo is a very versatile and has many different uses, for example as towels, bowls And utensils. As a fabric, for use in towels, bamboo is three times more absorbent than cotton and boasts anti-allergy, anti-static and anti-fungal properties.
